An image that tells a thousand words

Strange, isn’t it? How, social media has connected world. I reflect back to time when I would only know those, I interact with to now where people quite literally have connections with thousands of people from everywhere around the world.

Taking about the reach of social media, how important is it to Network? I was asked this question during my professional development and employability module. I found it interesting as I am apart of the Westford Mentorship Program and networking is what I do on a daily basis. So, I researched and an article by Forbes stated that; networking is essential for me because it (Cole, 2019):

1. Allows for me to share ideas.

2. Creates a publicity.

3. Creates newer and sometimes better opportunities.

4. Allows for me to review my skills and qualifications.

5. Improves my creative intellect

6. Growing my career status

7. Grows my confidence

8. Develops long lasting business relationships

Now I always had a negative association with social media in general-for reasons I will not bore you with. But I never thought that what I was missing out on what was ultimately- revolutionary. Thanks to my Personal Development and Employ-ability module, The trick that I learned during class was how to increase my visibility. Similarly, after some research a Forbes article stated that to increase my social media presence, I need to (Anon., 2022):

1. Re post and share posts from people who inspire me

2. Learn through the content I re post (things to look for is experience and their perspective).

3. By re posting it builds my network and through this powerful network can build long term relationships

I gained some confidence and in fact, I started an Instagram account as well as started increasing my following and impact of LinkedIn; which I am proud to say I have 200 followers now on LinkedIn.

In an article by Forbes stated that through Hootsuite (the author) that social media platforms are crucial because they are a tool to reach a large audience, sharing information and nurturing one-to-one relationships between content creators and audiences. Wow! This might be self-explanatory but when I sit back and reflect on these points mentioned, I can truly grasp that idea.

What I can take away- a lesson perse is that social media, is a powerful tool that can reach millions and it must be utilized in today’s times especially if I want to stay relevant and add strong criteria to my DOG TAG!
